Jobs for emerging Producers

As part of the Australia Council’s Opportunities for Young and Emerging Artists (OYEA) initiative, 10 paid mentorships for emerging producers, agents, gallery dealers and rights managers are available for a period of 18 months under the ‘emerging producers mentorship program’.

Fellowship Opportunity Antarctica

Established artists, researchers, filmmakers, writers and talented emerging artists are invited to apply for an Australian Antarctic Arts Fellowship administered by the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD). The Fellowship aims to foster understanding of the Antarctic environment and communicate the significance of Australia's activities through the work of people especially gifted in communicating through various media. Textile Art Festival

Transform trash into treasure

The Art of Recycling, a new competition supported by Expertise Events and the Australian Textile Arts & Surface Design Association Inc for the upcoming Textile Art Festival, will challenge textile artists. With $2 000 to be won, the competition will challenge textile artists to create an artwork made predominantly from textiles and recycled materials.

The competition is open to all textile artists and has two categories: ‘Wearable Art’ and ‘Textile Art to Live With’. By displaying artworks made from objects and textiles that would normally be thrown away, The Art of Recycling aims to raise awareness on the importance of resource conservation by reducing, reusing and recycling.

Northern Rivers Performing Arts (NORPA) Generator Residencies 2009

Generator at NORPA is a new creative development program that will energise theatre making in the Northern Rivers region.
NORPA believes in the kind of theatre that:

• Reflects contemporary Australian culture;
• Is highly collaborative;
• Springs from the curiosity of all kinds of artists;
• Is physical and dynamic, and
• Is a place for new ideas and artistic experimentation.

In 2009 NORPA will offer 2 Generator Residencies, each of up to 2 weeks duration in Lismore NSW. The residency includes rehearsal space, share accommodation for up to 5 people, some technical assistance, a modest budget and a theatre for a showing of the work in progress. A showing of some kind is a requirement of the residency. Each group will be allocated a budget of $2500 to be used on the work.

Applications are now open for Residencies to take place between 1 August and 30 November 2009. The deadline for applications is Friday 20 March 2009.

Gen TV - Creating TV, web and mobile content generators.

QPIX are really excited about Gen TV! If you are successful you'll be creating your own series for the new media world (TV, web and mobile)! You will be the key contributors in creating a show from scratch, from show concept, planning, shooting all the way through to promoting the show and managing the show's website. It's hands on industry training. You'll shoot everything and everywhere and you'll be the only Screen and Media course in Brisbane to have exclusive access to shoot in the Channel 7 studios.

This puts you right in the thick of the working TV industry, enabling you to make great industry contacts. The best part about Gen TV is that while you're getting this invaluable experience, you'll also be earning yourself a Diploma in Screen and Media (CUF50107). The high standard of QPIX graduates has been recognised by universities across Queensland, who have agreed to allow graduates of QPIX (based on their portfolio) to jump mid-way into a university degree, if they wish to continue their film training beyond Diploma level.

Artback NT: Arts Development and Touring Inc. is interested in hearing from visual artists and performers (theatre, dance, music, circus and spoken word) and from both solo acts and groups who are interested in touring in 2010-11. This is a fantastic opportunity to tour through the Northern Territory to regional centres and remote Indigenous communities with a local touring organisation that specialises in rough terrain and non-specialised venues.

Touring in the Northern Territory of Australia guarantees you a unique opportunity to share your art and art practice with people and communities who will not only appreciate your work but the effort you have made to get your work to some of the most remote places in Australia.

West End Carnivale

West End Carnivale is a colourful celebration of world music, roots, reggae, arts and circus culture. Traditionally Carnivale has been used as a platform for Artistic and Political Expression and a way for people to express their inner selves, free from the constraints of conservative so society.

In response to this, and in memory of one of the festival organisers’ best-loved local artists skitL, Carnivale will feature a dedicated Art Market space especially for local Artists/Designers to come and display their wares.

There are 10 free stall spaces available, and a ticket into the festival.

State Library of Queensland Youth Writers Award 2009 Calling Young Writers

Queensland’s aspiring young writers are once again invited to submit their short stories for a chance to launch their literary careers and win a $2,000 cash prize.
Entries for the State Library of Queensland Young Writers Award 2009 open 18 May and State Librarian Lea Giles-Peters is asking a new generation of young writers to embrace this exciting opportunity.
‘I encourage all 18-15 year olds living in Queensland to dig deep into their creative minds and share the stories that are important to them and hopefully kick start an illustrious career in writing,’ Ms Giles-Peters said.
Now in its 14th year, the State Library of Queensland Young Writers Award has launched the careers of many young writers including Alisdair Duncan (Sushi Central), Christopher Currie (Dearly Departed) and recipient of the prestigious Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative, Tara June Winch.
Simon Groth, who has been highly commended twice in the past, was short-listed for the 2008 Queensland Premier’s Literary Award, while the 2006 winner, James Halford, was published in a 2007 collection of bet Australian stories alongside Kate Grenville and David Malouf.
‘The winner will be announced at the annual Queensland Premier’s Literary Awards, along with the recipient of the $500 Maureen Donahoe Encouragement Award,’ said Ms Giles-Peters. ‘But the most exciting opportunity from these awards is the potential to uncover Queensland’s next great literary talent.’

Australia’s largest youth talent competition now open!

Forget reality TV shows – if you’re creative and you know it, Australia’s largest national talent competition is the best way to show it!
The National Talent Competition (NTC) is part of the National Youth Week 2009 (NYW 09) celebrations and will showcase Australia’s best young creative talents. All young Australians aged 12 to 25 are invited to RockIT, WriteIT, ShootIT, SnapIT and DesignIT until entries close on April 14.
The theme for NYW 09 is Make a Move – encouraging young people to strive for their goals and live their dreams, be it travel, sport, community involvement, study, career, art or music.
The NTC has more than $70,000 worth of prizes up for grabs including computer and software packages, music vouchers and professional camera equipment. Entries will be judged in two age categories – Junior (12-17) and Senior (18-25). Industry representatives will select an overall winner in each category while an online poll (held after NYW) will give young Australians the chance to decide their People’s Choice winners.
NTC Industry judge Faustina “Fuzzy” Agolley from Network Ten’s Video Hits urged young Australians to ‘Make a Move’ by entering the NTC and showing the nation what they’re made of.
“The National Talent Competition is an awesome opportunity for young people around Australia to demonstrate their talents, impress some top industry judges and score some great prizes that will help them to pursue their passion,” Fuzzy said.

Artist Initiated Residencies 2009

The inter-arts office will consider artist initiated residency proposals from artists creating work through interdisciplinary and hybrid arts.

Applications are encouraged from artists in all states and territories, regardless of where the residency takes place.

Artists may propose residencies with a host of their choice to the value of $20,000 per residency. Residencies of three months or more will be considered for funding by the inter-arts office. Residencies longer than three months may be negotiated at the discretion of the artist and host within the funding constraints of the program.

Artist initiatied residences are open to individuals and groups. To be eligible, you must meet the general eligibility requirements.

Selection criteria

Applications must demonstrate:

the calibre of the artist (primarily assessed on the basis of examples of previous work and artist CV)
the potential for the residency to contribute to the applicant’s professional development and their work in interdisciplinary and hybrid arts
the ability to participate in consultative and collaborative situations
evidence that the project proposed for the residency period is well planned and achievable.
Closing date: 1 May 2009

Decisions advised: July 2009

Projects may start: 1 August 2009
